Series 5000 Single Lever Control System

 

This is a typical  Series 5000 single lever control system installation aboard a 98 foot motoryacht. 

The three control stations are all within the enclosed, raised pilothouse.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Series 5000 control system is an easy to install, multiple point control system.  The heart of the system is the engine room mounted control unit (A-5000).  This unit performs the shift and throttle functions, and is driven by a single cable from each control head.
The A-5000 unit is manufactured from heavy duty, CNC machined, marine alloy castings, and features high efficiency moving parts such as stainless steel ball bearings and needle bearing cam followers.  The system provides for throttling the engines while positively locked into neutral, and is safeguarded against accidentally reengaging the transmission with the throttle open.

Control heads:

The control head features a small footprint and is sealed watertight to the console. It is manufactured from Almag 35 aluminum and is anodized before we bake on the attractive and durable, textured powder coating. The stainless steel shafts ride in sealed needle bearings for an unmatched, smooth feel. The installation is as simple as it gets.

Also available is an "inside the console" mounting kit which makes installing in "pod" or "bubble" consoles a piece of cake.  See our sportfishing page for more information on this option.


Cable options:
The cable that connects the control head to the engine room unit (5300-T) features a special TeflonŽ wrapped moving member for superior performance. It is available in lengths from 4 to 70 feet with total combined lengths of 80 feet or more possible in many multiple point applications.

For extremely long cable runs (in excess of 100 feet possible) we typically recommend the B-5200 ball bearing cable.  This remarkably efficient and accurate cable gives outstanding feel of both the shift and throttle.

Output Cables:

The A-5000 control unit is connected to the engine governor and transmission shift levers using standard "33" series cable connections.  This allows for simple retrofitting and/or use of factory supplied cable connection kits in most cases.  The heavier duty "43" series cables can also be used for these "output" cables, and are recommended when operated loads are high. 

 

The system is 100% mechanical, yet exceptionally smooth and easy to operate, even with two or three control stations.  Although it is a mechanical system, it is compatible with most electronically controlled diesel engines, and provides for mechanically shifting most hydraulic transmissions (marine gears)...much more reliable than electric and/or electronic shifting.

The Series 5000 is designed to interface with a number of other related systems, such as twin engine synchronizers, neutral start interlock systems, trolling valve interlocks and can be used with electrically shifted transmissions when required.

System options include a manual operating lever for emergency engine room control of the shift and throttle.
